You would assume for the price of the item, like a watch battery or something would power the candles. Not the case. It takes 3 AAA PER CANDLE.

Per instructions if your not going to use the candles for a long period of time you have to turn the candle itself off and in order to do that you have to open battery compartment to turn off the switch and in my case by doing that the switch broke. Not good in my opinion.
