It was wrapped in plastic, when I opened it black gritty powder was all over it and inside it. What a mess! The only reason I kept it was because I had the sconce already and it was far to take back.

This is such a pretty box but there is a reason it's packaged in plastic. Once you touch it your hands will be covered in a black soot like material. The inside of the box is covered in it too. It is constantly coming off in chunks from between the outside tiles. I exchanged this twice and all three of them were like this. I finally had to glue black material inside and on the bottom so I could use it. Have to be very careful when handling. This is a very poorly designed product.

The box itself is beautiful and great if you dont want to store anything in it. However the lid has no hinges or anything and the grout crumbles off the edges of the box every time I remove the lid and replace it and I am sure to remove it/replace it gently since I know it is prone to doing this and that still doesn't help. I only open the box once a week or so. A little disappointed. I think I'll move it to a spot where it is just a decorative piece and not used as a box...kind of a waste.
